Ring Removal

If you need to remove a stuck jewellery ring, there are several safe methods you can try before resorting to cutting it off. The key is to reduce swelling and friction. Feel free to contact us for any advice you may need.

Important: Never force a ring off. It can tear skin or damage circulation.

1. Lubrication Method

Use something slippery to help the ring slide off.

Good options:
Soap and water
Hand lotion
Petroleum jelly
Cooking oil

Steps:
Apply lubricant around the finger and ring.

Twist the ring gently while pulling it upward.

Work slowly rather than forcing it.

2. Cold Water Method

Swelling can make rings difficult to remove.

Steps:
Place your hand in cold water for 5–10 minutes.

Elevate your hand above heart level.

Try sliding the ring off with lubrication.

3. Dental Floss / String Method

This works well for very tight rings.

Steps:
Slide dental floss or thin thread under the ring.

Wrap the floss tightly around the finger toward the fingertip.

Unwind the floss from the end near the ring.

As it unwraps, it gradually moves the ring off.

4. Elastic Band Method

Similar to floss but easier for some people.

Steps:
Wrap an elastic band tightly around the finger.

Compress swelling.

Slide the ring over the wrapped section.

5. When to Seek Help

Seek professional advice if:

The finger is turning blue/purple

Severe pain or swelling

The ring won’t move at all

6. The Jewellers Method

1. Finger Protection
We slide a thin metal guard between the ring and the finger. This shield prevents the cutting blade from touching the skin.

2. Ring Cutter Tool
The tool has a small circular saw blade and a protective guard plate.

We slowly rotate the blade to cut through the ring.

3. After the cut
We use ring-opening pliers, the ring is gently spread apart and will slide off the finger easily

In most cases, the ring can be repaired afterwards.
